Three faculty members in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering have earned tenure and promotion to associate professor this spring. A fourth has been promoted to full professor.

Yonggang Ke has earned tenure and promotion to associate professor at Emory University, effective Sept. 1. Francisco “Paco” Robles and Denis Tsygankov received tenure at Georgia Tech and will become associate professors July 1.

Also, Associate Professor Edward Botchwey has earned promotion to full professor at Tech.

Botchwey’s research focuses on improving tissue engineering therapies to repair, replace, preserve, or enhance tissue and organ function. His lab works to understand the microenvironmental factors that govern healing and develop biomaterials to help “tune” tissue regeneration.

Ke is driving toward customizable therapies and personalized medicine using DNA as building blocks. His lab uses DNA to build complex structures at the nano scaled for biomedical applications, especially drug delivery and diagnosing disease.

Robles works to advance optical technologies and signal processing methods to improve biological imaging. His work aims to deepen understanding of biological processes and enhance our ability to identify diseases.

Tsygankov’s work integrates experimental and computational methods to understand complex biological processes at a systems level. His team uses modeling, simulations, and advanced computer vision techniques and focuses particularly on biomechanical aspects of physiology.
