Research Interests:
Dr. Feola’s lab focuses on ocular pathologies (e.g., glaucoma) from a women’s health perspective. We have a particular interest in understanding how menopause and estrogen signaling play a role in developing ocular diseases and visual impairments. We take a continuing diverse approach to spanning experimental biomechanics, computational modeling, and developing deep learning tools to assess outcomes. We also incorporate electrophysiology and in vivo imaging approaches to understand how visual impairments progress over time in experimental models. Our goal is to gain a deeper understanding of how menopause relates to the pathophysiology of ocular diseases and eventually develop therapeutic targets based on this insight.
